Celebrating Our Superpowers

Photo Booth Glenview

At Glenview Dual Language Immersion Magnet, being bilingual has long been folded into the fabric of who we are as a school. With over 15 languages and nearly 35 countries represented in our student population, students and staff have the unique experience of hearing a multitude of languages spoken daily. We have always celebrated our diverse makeup. While we know many of our students and staff come to us already speaking more than one language, we now have the opportunity for every student in our school to become bilingual with our new Dual Language Immersion program.

On Thursday, September 4th we kicked off our school year by hosting Open House for families. This event was not solely an opportunity for families to see classrooms and meet teachers, but rather a celebration of our new Dual Language Immersion magnet school theme. Staff, parents, and students were able to come and celebrate our mantra this year: “Being Bilingual is Our Superpower!” From the moment families arrived, the spirit of the evening was clear: bilingualism isn’t just a skill — it’s a superpower that unlocks doors, builds bridges, and empowers students to soar.

Families toured classrooms, meeting teachers and seeing where the magic happens each day. In kindergarten, students proudly showcased their work in both English and Spanish. All kindergarten students were greeted with capes that highlight how they are superheroes for learning in two languages! In all classes, teachers shared insights about the curriculum and the high academic expectations we have for all students.

One of the highlights of the evening was the superhero-themed photo booth, where families posed with capes, masks, and pom poms. The laughter and smiles were contagious, and the snapshots made for memorable keepsakes from a special night. Attendees also took home superhero themed swag, including stickers, pencils, and tattoos celebrating our superpowers.

Open House wasn’t just an event — it was a celebration of identity, diversity, and the incredible strength that comes from speaking more than one language. It was a reminder that at Glenview, students are more than learners — they’re global citizens, leaders, and yes — superheroes.

Thank you to all the families, staff, and students who made this evening such a success. We can’t wait to see where our bilingual superpowers take us next!
